KHALSA HERITAGE COMPLEX
Some years ago I had the honour and pleasure to work
with Orijit Sen and his creative team on a huge mural for
the 500 years of Sikhism and 300 years of Khalsa, memorial museum
at Khalsa Heritage Complex, or Virasat-e-Khalsa, in Anandpur Sahib, Punjab.
Orijit designed this to be a 20 meters high and 40 meters long mural
on both sides, inside a boat shaped building,
with a landing halfway it's hight, so that the visitors could walk around
and see everything perfectly from all angles.
The story represented, is of a full year around, in mostly rural Punjab,
with all its traditions, festivals, legends and history,
including the seasons and the different times of day and night,
with light and sound effects for each ocasion,
Songs, rain, thunder, birds chirping, lightning, daybreak. kites floating etc...
the actual creating process was quite a challenge,
and I only arrived towards the very end of it,
it seems several companies hired other companies that hired other companies,
plenty of confusion was created, as allways, in a few peoples favour
and to most other people's ruin...
omission of payments had to be met with delayed production deadlines
as the only means left to force a just treatment of the artists...
let's say some where celebrating the Khalsa heritage Complex,
while others were suffering from it,
Still Orijit managed to bring his team to safe shore eventually,
like a true pirate captain, securing the treasure of our creation,
and we all went together, to admire the wonderful result
of what was born in his mind, and was realized in a shared adventure.
We visited the museum at a quiet time,
outside of official events and away from political manipulations,
which are the ugly bumps and nose hairs that a projects this size will unevitably develop...
All in one boat with the curious and mesmerized general public,
we went to look at the magic of our work in action, light, sound and color,
the smells and tastes were suplied by our shared fantasy,
We who knew what it took to create a miracle like this...
felt most rewarded by the reactions of our fellow museum guests,
It was absolutely Magical... "
”Khalsa , is the collective body of all initiated Sikhs
represented by the five beloved-ones
and is the final temporal Guru-leader of the Sikhs.
The word Khalsa means "Sovereign-Free",
or that of being "Pure-Genuine.”
The Khalsa was inaugurated on March 30, 1699

light, water, soil, pain - dhyan,
Creates the love that feeds - ishq,
the heart that beats - alingan,
Fearless with one hand - abhaya,
Hope fulfilling with the other - aashirwaad,
She who watches with every pore ,
In your taking, she is sensing,
she is knowing , she is giving,
she is birthing, she is pleasure,
she is burning, she is engulfing,
You, the blind one, the greedy one,
ever consuming, ever thankless,
Just allow one pore to become alive,
and you will sense the magic of
"la mellona" , Isaila .
